Video Depositions
In today's legal world, videotaping
depositions has become more
important than ever before. As the cornerstone of trial presentation
technology, it is important that you start with the highest
quality
video available. LCI uses the latest in digital
equipment to ensure the highest quality picture and sound
available.
Our professional deposition videographers have years of combined experience and always keep abreast of evolving technology. We pay attention to every detail in audio and picture quality that will set your deposition videos apart from the competition. We believe you deserve the best... every video, every time.
On-site live real-time MPEG conversion. Once we shoot the deposition for you, we can hand you the CDs right there on the spot so you can view your deposition. How is that for service?
What should I look for when selecting
a video company?
First, consider the level of professionalism.
Their image will reflect back onto you, be it good or bad.
Also, they should be full service. Can they handle all of your video needs from taping to courtroom presentation?
How do I prepare for a video deposition?
Make sure the video deposition is properly noticed. Inform all the parties involved that your deposition will be videotaped. This will avoid surprises, objections and confusion.
When the deposition begins, always check the video and audio quality by reviewing the videographer's test tape.
The most important factor is to make sure you are using a trustworthy and reliable video company.
How can I make my witness look better?
Inform your witness to please avoid striped and white shirts. Explain to them that solid- and dark-colored suits are a better choice.
Also, the closer you sit to the camera, the more it will appear that the witness is answering to the jury. You might need to rearrange their seating arrangements prior to the shoot.
Avoid a swivel chair for the witness. A witness with straight shoulders exudes confidence.
A good video company will help you with their expertise in lighting, backdrops and high-quality, professional cameras.
Do I need to do anything different
if I want to use the video with my software program?
A poor-quality video will look and sound even worse on a CD-ROM or DVD. A good-quality video is an absolute essential for video/synchronization. Please remember to advise the court reporter to time stamp.
Just be aware that crisp, clear video and audio are essential when converting on a computer program.
What makes a video high quality?
The type of video equipment used, the grade of the videotape, and the expertise of the videographer all play an important role in a quality tape. An expert video company will only use broadcast quality S-VHS and digital cameras, top-of-the-line lavaliere microphones and broadcast grade tapes. They should also be skilled at controlling light and audio levels to ensure the clearest picture and sound.
What's the story with time stamping?
Your videotape will automatically come with the date and time stamped onto the bottom right corner. If you request it, the court reporter will time stamp your transcript at no extra cost. When you receive your transcript, the time will appear before or after each question and answer. When time stamping, the videographer and court reporter will take a few simple steps to synchronize the times, leading the way towards a smooth CD-Rom synchronization process. This makes it so much easier to quickly review the video with a transcript in hand.
VHS vs. SVHS: Is there a difference?
Yes. A VHS tape is regular videotape that comes in different grades from home movie to broadcast grade. It can be played on any VCR. The S in S-VHS stands for super. The super means that the quality is superior and, therefore, a better choice, especially if you plan to utilize video and text synchronization.
VHS or Digital: Which is best?
If you are simply planning on videotaping depositions and playing them back in court, VHS is the best format for ease of use. VCRs are found in just about every office and courtroom, and their simplicity of use is a given. If, however, you are planning on taking advantage of trial presentation software or are documenting evidence, digital is a better way to go because of the picture's clarity.
